About New Teacher Tips

Who am I?

About New Teacher Tips – I’m Roy Holton, a retired law enforcement officer who found a new calling as a Middle School Social Studies teacher. My passion for shaping young minds, and a love for history, now fuels my mission to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and compassion in my students.

What drives Me

For me, the most rewarding aspect is witnessing the growth and transformation of my students. I love watching as they develop their unique perspectives. It is hard not to feel immense pride in knowing that I am a part of shaping their futures. I am humbled by the opportunity to inspire young minds, cultivate curiosity, and encourage the pursuit of knowledge.

I have always recognized the significance of continuous learning. Since I am new to teaching children, I actively seek opportunities for professional development, attending workshops, and collaborating with fellow educators to refine my teaching practices and stay attuned to the ever-changing world. This site is a continuation of that journey. I see this as a platform for me not only to share my experiences but to also learn from you.

When I first entered the teaching profession I was completely naive and lost. I had no clue what to expect from the interview process, how to decorate my classroom, how to become organized, or even what lesson plans to use. Lucky for me thought, I was assigned to a team of amazing and very experienced teachers. Each teacher had a different approach to teaching and brought a different set of skills to the table. This helped me a lot in my first year.

My Hope

Here I share my experiences. In hopes that you can learn some of the lessons I have learned. If not maybe at least have a laugh at some of the mistakes that I have made while learning.

Here you will find Interview tips, lesson plans, organization ideas, classroom management ideas and sometimes just a journal entry describing some of my successes or failures.

In order to try to help as many current and future educators as I can and also make it easy to learn from you. You can also find me on Facebook.

Thank you for joining me on this journey as we explore the world of teaching together. Together, let’s embark on a quest to ignite curiosity, promote understanding, and shape a brighter future for generations to come.

With warm regards,
